Green English meeting in Kyiv park. Throwback

In our classes with my students, we often discuss the topic of climate change. It is a pressing problem of our planet and our species.  Being aware of the problems and solutions is crucial.  That is why in my lessons we always try to raise awareness of the issue of climate change and global warming.

In 2018 in (at that time still peaceful) Kyiv I organized an event called Green English. It was held in Shevchenko Park with students just sitting on the grass and discussing environmental issues.  For the event, I prepared vocabulary slides which I hand-drawn with a marker on pieces of cardboard.  This was fun and communicated the message that everything must be recycled, reused, or reduced.  I also attracted a sponsor,  a local company that recycled coffee paper cups.  They were eager to sponsor such an event and they gave some presents which were given away at the event.  They supplied notebooks and paper cups made of recycled paper.

Although not many students showed up we, still had a great time discussing the topic in English and just spending time in nature.  Here I'm going to show some photos from the event.  While writing this post I was happy to discover that I took photos of all the slides on cardboard.  And that's the beauty of the technology: the cardboard slides are gone, but the photos can still be used.  Review the following slides and see if you understand all the words.

Enjoy the slideshow I put together. It was a great idea to take photos of the slides 🤓 (P.S. If you know a good course on drawing, send me a link 😅)
